Complaining

Last night I went out to my local pub and decided to celebrate the fourth. The bartender is a friend of mine, so he felt that he could open up. Don't get me wrong, he didn't go on some long drawn out rant that nobody wanted to hear, but he did say something that got me uppity. I can't say I'm po'd or angry or anything like that. What he said is what any one of us would say at one point or another.

A customer came in that he hated. After he served the customer he said to me..."I hate my job". Now I know what you're thinking..."I've said that". And just so we're clear...I've even said it. But last night it came with new meaning for me. He said it to me. I've been out of work for almost a year. So have a lot of my friends. My best friend is upside down in his mortgage and paying it with his credit card. Yikes. Things ain't good.

So I said, "wow, at least you have a job. I've been out of work for almost a year." He replied, "Don't be a smartass!" Which I was being, but it did get me to thinking. Maybe people with jobs should protest a little less, especially around people that don't have them. And when I go to patronize a business, maybe show me a little more gratitude for choosing your business. Now I'm not referring to my friend. I know that everybody gets frustrated at the people who walk in the door. I'm just saying maybe it's time to take a step back and think about the situation.
